Timezones: set, change, and how Cadence Calendar uses them

Learn how Cadence Calendar uses your saved timezone across the app, including the calendar page and newly created items.

Timezones in Cadence Calendar

Your saved timezone controls how Cadence Calendar shows dates and times throughout the app. It is the reference point for calendar views, scheduling, and other date-based screens.

If you travel, Cadence Calendar does not automatically switch to the timezone on your device. It keeps using the timezone you selected until you change it.

Who this is for

This article is for teachers and staff who use Cadence Calendar and want to make sure lessons, events, and calendar views match the timezone they want to work in.

How to set or change your timezone

  1. Open Settings from the sidebar.
  2. Go to the Profile tab.
  3. Find the Timezone dropdown.
  4. Select the timezone you want to use.
  5. Click Submit to save the change.

You can update your timezone whenever needed.

How Cadence Calendar uses your timezone

Cadence Calendar uses your saved timezone as the basis for how time is displayed and how date calculations are handled in the app.

That means:

  • Calendar pages show dates and times in your saved timezone.
  • The /calendar route opens using your saved timezone, not your browser or device timezone.
  • The calendar starts from today in your saved timezone.
  • Calendar ranges and day boundaries are calculated in that timezone.
  • When you create date-based items in Cadence Calendar, the date and time you enter are interpreted in your saved timezone.

What this means on the /calendar page

The /calendar page uses the timezone saved on your profile to decide what day is "today" and how the calendar should load.

If your timezone is America/Chicago and you open Cadence Calendar while traveling in another timezone, the calendar still shows the schedule using America/Chicago unless you change your profile timezone.

This helps keep your calendar consistent and avoids shifting events just because you are in a different location.

What happens after you change it

After you save a new timezone:

  • Calendar views update to use the new timezone.
  • New date and time entries are created in the timezone you selected.
  • Existing items continue to display according to the timezone rules used by the app.

Important notes

  • Your browser timezone does not override your saved timezone.
  • Cadence Calendar keeps using your selected timezone even when you travel.
  • If you want the app to match your current location, update your timezone in Settings > Profile.

What to do next

If times look wrong, check your timezone first. In most cases, updating your timezone in Settings > Profile will make the calendar and related screens line up with the way you want to work.
